350england Steve McClaren's side have been dumped out of Euro 2008 after what has been described as a catastrophic night for English football.

Is it the manager's fault? Is it the overpaid players fault? Or do you think it is the FA's fault?

I think mcclaren should have stayed at boro and martain o neil should have gone for England manager

Imay be no football expert aged 14 but I would like to say how i don't steve mcclaren was ever the right man for the job - there was no momentum in the team and the players never really believed in him - we need someone with passion for football - someone's whoo's not just there for the money - Mourinho rings a bell!

Steve McClaren to me hasnt done any good management tactics at all. Like the friendly match before croatia he played owen and injured him. All he was in it for was for the money. However i believe we have a world class team and should be the top of europe. The players can not help that they have had **** managers for years, you only have to look at there clubs who have world class managers and they play world class, all we need is a world class manager to get the team up to where they should be the top

dont give us your dribble about foreign talent is to blame for england going out.It was only last year the foreigners were getting praised for improving the standard in the english league.just accept it , england are arrogant and big headed.forget 1966 concentrate on the present and you might get somewhere.

Overpaid and over rated bunch of losers! Amazing that they can up their game for their clubs. They deserve all the boo's they get and long may it last!!

I agree to the fact Macclaren needs to go and be replaced with someone that has more drive and passion, but are we not all overlooking the fact these players are supposed to be world class? These top players DON'T wear their England shirts with pride and haven't for a long time, they are over payed and not achieving the results that we should expect. The whole mentality of the English game and players needs to be addressed, its nice to know after the dismal game our children's "role models" kicked back, got drunk and spent aload of money on lap dancers. Bring on Jose please, he has passion and drive.

Sack the lot, start with a clean sheet, you want hungry players, only expenses should be paid to players, untill they win some thing, money has spoilt the game, get rid of all forign players, and let the english talent show through and not let it be sidelined in favour of the rich If you want the best to come out this has to happen.Just take a look at the first ever world cup, know one got paid we should start from the basics. Then in 5 or 10 years we might have a good team and game to be proud of.

these players put there club before country.they need a true leader..steve mclaren doesnt deserve all the blame.rember him at middleburo,he was fantastic there and got them to the uefa cup final and only barely lost.like sven goran errikinson we all thought he was a flop but then he went to man city and now he is flying ahead...what you need is a manger with a bigger ego than the players, only then will we have results.

Well the curse of the mighty Alf will linger on. The England team will never win a major tournament again and take it from me.
Until the British press put pressure and kick the big fat cows out of the FA we won't achieve anything and the beautiful game will be on its knees.
It is now up to the football fans not to make the overpaid and overrated players richer and richer.....do not buy seasons tickets, contibute in some sort to their celebrity lifestyle, buy football kits/souvenirs, subscribe to sky sports and you will see major changes in the FA and Clubs attitudes and mentality.
I felt so sorry for the fans who are the big losers. Steve McClaren who was a failure at Middlesborough received a cheque for £1,250,000 pounds and the players got £150,000 each as a bonus.
The reason why none of the British coaches are interested in the job is simply because they do not want to be dictated in their role and be the yes man of Barbick and co.

the premiership has got to be partly to blame, alex ferguson fielded three players on saturday who were not apparently fit for wednesday, hargreaves, ferdinand and carrick. thats a very quick recovery in anybodys book. foreign managers(and scottish) dont care for the england team so just pull there players out. friendlies are understandable but big games like croatia the players have got to show some pride and play!

Steve McClaren should have been sacked because he wasn't right for the job, obviously based on the results. But the players nned to wake up and see that they are not the best as well as them being paid way way way too much. The media are also to blame and should stop hyping up every match we have Football or Rugby.
England didn't deserve to go through and hopefully they may be woken up by the defeat.

I love football probably more than the average guy, but it never seem to amuse me when the english press who are so quick to point out how good the english players are when it suits then or when they play against a team that is mediocre and win to make them out to be the the best in the world and when all else fails lets blame the foreigners in british football.
britain needs to wake up and understand the reason you have so many foreign players is simply because the pound is the strongest currency in the world, has nothing to do with how good your country's game is, try kicking the foreigners out and see how interesting those foreign tv packages will be.
your top eleven will probably not be able to beat any of the top ten teams in the world. mr ferguson of man u who happens to be from uk and now complains about foreign players, what a joke,
he has only 1 european championship to his name and dominated the english league cause he had the most money to buy the best, but hes hailed as the best manager in england by the press.
england needs to find a way to provide itself with better players in its national team, funny thing i believe you have more than enough players to be a better team but not with your usual suspects. they all playing your leagues but will probably not get picked cause they do not hav the same high profile. oh well, even mourihno wont mae a difference if he stickswith the usual suspects. can someone honestly tell that the defence you played was your best availaible in england. i know and i beleive you had better english boys that would have been perfect and would have done better jobs, for gawds sake , campbell in central defence, even at his best i would never pick him.
even your regular 4 backs dont amount to much, you have better english players playing in your league.

get the players selection right and put in a good coach and you will be surprised at the results

Money and greed has taken over english football, they have brought in these foreigners at riduculous wages the need for clubs to be successful far outweighs the need for national team success.the government, shareholders and owners all benefit at club level.Scotland is now learning from the same mistake that rangers and celtic made signing foreign players. We are slowly beginning to bring topclass players through the ranks. Whats more imortant your club winning the league or your national team winning the world cup.

What journalistic muppet cae up with the view that it's the fault of too manyforeign imports. There may be that's an unrelated discussion.

Our footballers are some of the highest paid in the world and have great skill but on the big stage they choke time and time again and forget the basics. Getting knocked out is the best thing that could have happened.

Hopefully they will go back to complete basics, build a style that is based upon skill, ball control and retention. Not punting the ball blindly up the field at every opportunity and giving the ball away. Likewise when we get within 20 yards of the goal there's a complete lack of ideas of what to do to open up the opposition.

Just look back at the rugby world cup. England went into it in total disarray, but with real focus, determination, and minute analysis across every aspect of their game they rebuilt and executed brilliantly, gettin to the final and taking out the Aussies on the way. Every member to a man plays with total, blinding passion and committment, you see it from the first bar of the national anthem to the final minute They're nowhere near the perfect team & have a very long way to go before they will be but it was their passion & unswerving desire to disect every play, lost or won ball that got them to the final.

Whoever takes on the management role, and I hope its an overseas manager (we don't have anyone able to take it back to basics) has the balls and is given the leaway to build it from scratch. The whole English game is the same at the moment which is why the media have to grow up and listen... we're all sick of the negative reporting. WE HAVE TO BUILD FROM THE GROUND UP, CHANGE OUR WHOLE THOUGHT PROCESS TO THE GAME, GET THE PLAYERS ACTUALLY BELIEVING IN THEMSELVES AGAIN AND MAYBE IN 3YEARS TIME WE'LL PLAY TO OUR POTENTIAL.

It does not matter who the next manager of England is the result will be the same, On the world stage the players are just not good enough.

I think Steve Macclaren shouldn't have been given the sack because if you look at it everyone makes mistakes and just because england lost that doesn't man he dhould be sacked. Look at some of the matches england lost in the world cup. The didn't just sack the manager when they lost their match. I don't think it is fair Steve has just come to fill that spot.m I think that they should give him a chance and he will change and the team will improve. Just remember everyone makes mistakes and that mistake can be amended.

I would love to see Otto Rehagel as the England team manager. at Werder Bremen he was fantastic,at Bayern Munich he was even better, and look what he has done at Greece. He has changed the minnows into sharks.you just cannot get better credentials than that.forget the English managers there all rubish.even the Irish, Scotish, and Welsh managers are much better.

Well at least he manager could be sacked.Who exactly is the board of the F.A accountable to ?.These mupets are equally to blame for the current mess in the national team yet they seem untouchable by anyone. So now they are going to a root & branch investigation of themselves-by themselves, this is crazy. As for the chief exec Barwick, he looks like he spends more time lucking after his ever increasing waistline than he does football...Another prawn sandwich anyone ? !!! & i doubt he or the chairman would be even able of running the length of a football pitch before they had a heart attack..They are the real problem & should go.

Steve McClaren's side have been dumped out of Euro 2008

Personally I think it's a big fuss about nothing. It's only a game of football for heavens sake. Everyone in England should partially blame the media for them being upset because if they did not hype them up so much prior to tournaments and before games by saying quotes like ( ENGLAND EXPECTS ) or other such ridiculous phrases as if they have the god given right to qualify. But in fact they are not that great a squad who have to learn to take a beating now and again. So I don’t care if he got sacked or not and who in their right mind would want that job? Let the English public decide the squad so when they lose, they are to blame.

It's amazing, when the English loose, they will always find someone or something to blame. If the players are picked for the English squad, then they are the best in England, they should not even need a coach to tell them what to do. They are paid 100,000's of thousands pounds a month, that is their job. Don't blame Maclaren, they players did not have the heart or will to win.If english club players were good enouygh, they would be chosen over and above foreign players, and believe me, Premiership teams would gladly choose home based players, as they would be cheaper to employee. Catch a wake up England, and face it, your home based players are just not good enough to beat the rest of the world!!!

Kevin Keegan was right when he said 7 years ago when he left, "in 10 years time the then England manager will be picking players from the championship to play for their country "or words to that effect, Kevin you were right & nobody listened, now look where we are at

Unleash North England against South England? That will prove quite entertaining! Where do we get tickets?

TAKE THE LAMBOS, FERRARI'S AND ALL THE OTHER FANCY CARS AWAY FROM THE MUPPETS.

STRIP THE PLAYERS OF THEIR HOUSES AND PUT THEM IN THE HEART OF THE EAST END TO LIVE IN RUN DOWN FLATS.

I GUARANTEE YOU WITH MY LIFE THEY WOULD WIN THE WORLD CUP.

TOO MUCH MONEY, TOO MUCH FAME, KICK EM ALL OF THE TEAM. PUT MOURHINO AS MANAGER AND WE WILL DEFO WIN THE NEXT WORLD CUP.

WE KNOW WHAT THE ENGLISH FOOTBALL TEAM ARE DOING THIS SUMMER..... HOLIDAYS WITH WAGS,,,, U COULDNT GET A BETTER LIFE....

AN UTTER SHAME TO THE COUNTRY.

i do think that he should have got the sack, what does he expect not qualifying is a joke, but the recent article on the sky website about there being to many foreign players in the premiership is a load of rubbish if foreigners can live in this country why can they play for our clubs

Steve McClaren was over promoted by FA & in particular Brian Barwick; barwick should step down. We should go for Capello with Stuart Pearce as assistant.
