Quake UK - Your Stories
February 27, 2008

Blogquake I was woken up by the UK's biggest quake for 25 years.  The house felt like it was twisting back and forth.  The baby didn't like it either - she woke up howling.  I haven't had a chance to check for cracks or other damage to the house.

That was my experience - what was yours?

What earthquake?

things are really bad since the eartquake here in sunny urmston...a chair fell over.....the place is like beirut....half of urmston fell down. caused nearly 15 quids worth of damage...

it was like a little rumble at first, like it was virbrating, then it got more powerful making my light on my desk move as i stood up it made me feel like i was drunk
i knew i was not drunk as i dont drink

i had just gone to bed when all of a sudden my bed starts shaking and i was thinking my bed was possessed or my room was haunted then i thought i was just going mental. but then in the morning i looked on the news and it said that there was an earthquake at 12:56 n when i looked at my clock when it happened it was only a minute later

I woke up just before 1am last night when our whole house was shaking. It only lasted for about 10 seconds but it did wake me up.

I woke up to my bed shaking and my T.V and Stereo shaking on my unit. when i woke up in the morning my cd stand had fallen on the floor and many other items due to the earthquake.

I was in and out of sleep last night and at one point when I was half awake, I felt a sudden jolt. It was as if someone had rammed into my bed and my wardrobes that were behind me. I thought maybe the neighbours had done something then I thought there was a supernatural force in my room but was too tired and scared to investigate!

As I only felt a jolt, i'm guessing that perhaps I felt an aftershock? I didn't check the time though.

I was woken just after one am with my bed shaking. I sat up and looked around the room and thinking I had been dreaming I got back into bed but told my daughters about it in the morning, they told me I was crazy and that I had been dreaming. When they got to work they phoned me to say that there had been an eathquake and that I was not going crazy and apologised to me.

I was dreaming that I was in a race car because of the being bumped around by the rough road when all of a sudden I woke up. At first it sounded like a huge gust of wind, but then the house started shaking and the roof was clicking. The dogs were not barking though. We put the radio on first and then came downstairs to watch Sky News, who quickly told us what happened, every one I know was talking about it the whole day and wandering if there was an after shock. But then I wnd on this website and found ou that I had missed it and I was asleep.

Well we had a late night and soon after I got into my bed I felt as if my husband who was snoring heavly was not feeling well and my immediate thought was that he was having an heart attack. I moved away from him, however continued to experience a vibration/ repelling movement. I thaught that it could not be me shaking! Suddenly my 21 year old daughter Zara appeared looking shocked and was convienced that our house had ghosts. I paused for a minute, almost agreeing that we may have ghosts! Then I thought was that it cannot be possible to us both to experience the confrontation of ghost whilst been awake.
After deliberating about what it could or could not be I switched on the light and TV.
Only to the confirmed breaking news of an earthquake.
It was the most strangest experience I have ever had to actually feel that vibrating movement. A very shocking experience to go through and I never in my life thought that that I would have experienced the tremors of an earthquake!

there has been another tremmer in denby dale huddersfield i wos wotching tv as the room started shaking time 6:00
people from shops came out thinking what is happening.

I slept throught the thing, and arrived at college this morning, to hear all my mates talkin about it. At first i thourght they were joking, until i logged onto Sky news, and found it it wasn't a prank.

I was lying awake in bed when I became aware of a rumblling sound which became a tremendously loud roar, like a hurricane was blowing against the house. At the same time my house literally swayed from side to side and I really thought the house was going to collapse. I didn't understand what was happening at first and thought a plane must have crashed at RAF Waddington which is about a mile away. This was a proper earthquake - really frightening!

i slept infront of the tv with my legs over the couch, wen all of a sudden i felt my legs being thrown off the couch and my whole living area shaking.. i swear i thought i had woken up from a nightmare or my building was falling or the world had come to an end, so i went back to sleep all dressed up scared shitless but earthquake never came to my mind. if i was aware that it was a tremor i probably would have been back in my country by now.

Was just going to sleep when room started shaking. We live near the railway line and it felt like a train going past so thought nothing of it until the morning news. Wouldn't have noticed if been asleep.

At about 1am i thought i was being burgled. I woke up screaming turned all the lights on and went out of my bedroom ready to kick some burglar butt. All seemed o.k however i went to the loo and noticed the picture on my wall is wonky, Now i'm not the kind of girl to have wonky pictures in my flat!! I promptly straightened it up and thought i'd dreamt the whole saga until my friend texted me. I was on the phone to my friend for about 20 minutes and i finally dropped back off thankful we don't live a big earthquake area like Turkey or Pakistan where millions are killed annually.

The noise was incredible - starting at a low rumble, building up to a huge bang. We honestly thought that a plane had crashed in our village, which is about 15 miles from the epicentre. The whole house shook, not just up and down though but side to side as well - luckily nobody injured, just terrified. Some houses in our village appear to have minor damage, cracks and damaged ornaments.

There definitely was a far smaller aftershock just before 3am, which mildly rattled the house, rather than shook it.

What a night!!

I was fast asleep and was rudely woken by my bed shaking & fitted wardrobe doors banging. It lasted about 10 seconds and i looked at the clock and it was 00:59 I was very frightened and thought someone had come into my bedroom to get me! My partner is away so I was alone too! The whole house was moving. I thought i must be dreaming so i text my mum who said i must be because she didn't feel anything!!! I then had to stay awake and put Sky News on just to make sure i wasn't going mad. Thank you Sky News for proving I'm not going mad!

WHO THINK WE WILL HAVE ANY MORE TONIGT

Me and my housemate had just finished watching a horror movie and went to bed 10 mins later i felt someone shaking the end of my bed i told my housemate to pack it then i realised i had locked my door
i opened it to find her there and she said did u feel that too i said yes we then got texts saying it was an earthquake off our friends thank god it wasnt a ghost, i just didn't know what was going off as i had never felt an earthquake before, no damage was done and not many people felt it around my area.

A friend and myself were sat in my bedroom watching 'Scrubs', when all of a sudden we were treated to violent shaking.

My friend who was asleep at the time, was woken up by the sound, and promptly questioned me before realising it was in fact an earthquake.

My mobile phone, which I stand in an upright position, as it achieves better signal, fell off the windowsill, while my wardrobe and other items violently shaked.

As I'm a student we live in a block of flats in Storthes Hall Student Village, Kirkburton, Huddersfield, and the whole building swayed. There were lots of people running out, and plenty of people were woke up by the noise!

It was an amazing experience.

I'd only been in bed around 30 mins when just before 1am I was awoken by the metal bed moving and shaking that I was in! The whole room seemed to be swaying but lucky for myself and my family there was no damage! Quite unnerving though and I struggled to settle for the rest of the night!

I was in bed half asleep when a rumbling noise came from the distance it got louder and louder and then the house started shaking violently my bedroom floor was littered with cosmetics and broken after shave bottles! and i could hear the chandelier in the hall rattling! all around the house i could hear glass objects moving! and we could also hear our local church bells swaying!!!! i was petrified!

I was asleep when suddenly i felt my bed shake for about 20 seconds,it was a rather strange experience to say the least. I noted the time so i could check this morning if an earthquake had in fact hit. I was woken at 12:58 am

it was between 00:55am and 01:00am when i felt the quake. at first i thought there was something wrong with the house as all the house shoke for about 3 seconds. i made my way out of the house to see what was up and if there was any damage. at that point a firend called me from the othere side of sheffield claming he felt the quake to. i find it mind blowing the distance the quake was felt. i have never felt anythin like it.
