Quake UK - Your Stories
February 27, 2008

Blogquake I was woken up by the UK's biggest quake for 25 years.  The house felt like it was twisting back and forth.  The baby didn't like it either - she woke up howling.  I haven't had a chance to check for cracks or other damage to the house.

That was my experience - what was yours?

I couldnt sleep last night so went down stairs to watch t.v,was watching sky news turned the tv off and after about 20 min of laying trying to go to sleep I felt like i was shaking!
It didnt occur what was or had happend.

Scary stuff eh ?!

My 9 month old baby woke at 1am and i could hear her banging on her cot, at the same time my bed shook and some coat hangers on the cupboard started rattling.

It lasted about 3 seconds and by time I realised what was happening it had finished.

I was watching tv around 1am when I suddenly heard this terrific rumble. The wall behind me shook as did the sofa I was sat on. I got up quickly and looked out of the window to see if a lorry had crashed. It was quite disturbing for those few seconds.

I was sitting up watching TV when the house started to shake. My first thought was that it was just my house about to give way! Woke my husband and he didnt hear it!

i heard a loud bang i thought someones house got broken into i quickly looked outside and i saw nearly everyones lights one and some alarms went off including mine

I am an english guy living in Israel, my story is quite strange, last night i had a dream about some of my friends and myself expieriencing an earthquake, and this morning i checked my facebook and hearing stories about this earthquake from my friends that i dreamt about?

well we were all just watching telly as normal when at approx 12.56am the house shook slighly for about 2 secs and thouht it was hubbie falling out of bed. then after a quick second of nothing the whole house shook floor too and the fish tank water was sloshing around and lasted about another 8 secs it was really scary and we all said at the same time what the hell was thats and went out in street and a few bedroom light came on so i rang the non emergancy line and they said just had a earth tremor and to stay safe as could be another one. so were we all in shock and scared and did not finally fall asleep till after 4am. so a very earth moving time for a change lol

I was reading my book and all of a sudden my house started to shake and things on shelf and mirror on the wall were swinging. First thing struck me that it is a airplane but sooner i realised it is much stronger vibration than airplane or heavy gales. I was all alone in the house and could not dare to step out of my bed. The mirror keep on swinging for more than half a minute and later I went downstairs to check every thing is OK.
I have felt Earthquake earlier but when you are alone it is the most scary thing I have ever felt.

i was woken at 1am by a loud sound very much like a train going by. i thought my roof had come off due to the recent high winds, but luckily there is no damage at all. i live about 12 miles west of newcastle and this is the first time i have heard anything like this.

i was sat watching a film downstairs as i could not sleep when my parrott started going mad in her cage ,all off a sudden around 12.55 i started being shaken on the settee and the house started to move, i ran up stairs to check on everybody and they were all asleep i thought i was going mad, i looked out of my bedroom window and seen everyones lights coming on, thats when i realised i had just witnessed a earthquake it was really scary and still could not get to sleep thinking of any after shocks. hope i never feel anything like that again.

I was in bed and I woke up as though someone was shaking me, I shoved the cover over my head and covered my head with my hands.(there were threatening canveses nearly falling off the wall trying to hit my head. all of a sudden it came to a stop.I couldn't get back to sleep after that because I was scared of another wave.

it was nearly 1am when i felt my bed moving. First i did'nt think it was earthquake but then it hit me when my whole room moved like it was about to lift off. it was scary experience. totally unprepared to deal with consequences if it got any worse. Thankfully theres no real damage.

I was in the bathroom at the time, getting ready for bed. I was worried that I was going to miss the toilet bowl, it was shaking so much!

My bed started juddering and I thought my cat (Mr Woo) had jumped up and had started to clean himself although it seemed more intense than normal. When I turned the light on though, he wasn't even in the room which I thought was odd but that I must've imagined it. It wasn't until I saw the headlines this morning that I realised that it was the earthquake I'd felt and not my cat!

I was scared to death when i woke up and i heard a buzzing noise and my bed and wardrobes shaking.I had been on a ghost hunt for the night at the weekend and was convinced it was paranormal.I woke and told my husband and he said stop going on about bloody ghosts your losing the plot.I was so releived when my cousin texted me this morning to say the same had happened to his house up the road and it was an earth quake.phew!!!

i was a sleep and i heard a lot of noise and my wall were making noise

i felt it at about 01.00am it only lasted bout 10 secs enough to make my bed and cupboards shake.

was woken by what sounded like a road digger in the attic.Thought the whole roof must have caved in with the winds we have been having. Went into my daughters room who said go to bed youve woken me up.Next morning my kids laughed and said I was such a light sleeper I could here a pin drop!! They both text me from school and said there had been an earthquake,I thought they were taking the michael. How wrong could I have been.Luckily no damage seen yet. My husband was down stairs with the dogs said he heard a funny vibration thought we had a big mouse!!!

I was woken up with my bed shaking just before 1am and then woke my Husband up, by this time the whole house was shaking and there was a horrendous noise I thought an aeroplane had landed on the roof of the house, and realised it was an Earthquake, it was really frightening, it lasted for about 10 seconds, thank god there was no serious damage.

I woke to my bedroom shaking the pipes were making a noise and my kitten was going mad. At first i thought i was dreaming, so i looked out of the window to see other people putting their bedroom lights on, i ran back to the tv and put news 24 on, As soon as i switched it on it came as breaking news and people were phoning in telling of what had happened.

About 12:55am i was woken by the noise and the bedroom shaking !! i lept out of bed half dazed wondering what was going on looking out the window i couldnt see anything. My built in wardrobes were shaking and the roof was making alot of noise..
I thought from the sound outside that it was high winds blowing against the house and roof slates.
At 1:10am i heard another rumble and slight shaking.. i thought o well and went back to bed, it had crossed my mind it could be an earthquake but i thought "here in England nah" lol.

no im in ireland i didnt hear it but just called my mum and nan who live in norfolk and london and told me it sounded like a plane landing my nan in norfolk said the whole house shook and my mum in london said her pictures came off the wall and it was very violent and scary my nan is worried there will be a bigger one coming

I was awake feeding my baby, when suddenly my birds started flapping around in their cage. Shortly after, with the birds still going crazy, I felt the whole house shake.

I knew what it was, because it was exactly the same sensation as the 2002 quake.

So I got my laptop out and logged onto Sky News, just to confirm that it actually was a quake.

I was awake at the time of the earthquake. Just a couple of minutes before my cat began crying and looking around her ears were pinned back and she started running up the stairs. There was then a roaring sound coming from the foundations of the house working it's way through the house, I stood in disbelief as pictures and doors shook loudly. I woke my husband who said I must be tired so get some sleep.
My first thoughts were is it a crash, ghost, or something collapsing, thankfully when I put sky news on it confirmed the quake.

hey fokes.
Well 12:58AM what an experience. I was in bed and I just woke back up from sleeping, next thing the bed was shaking as if someone was draging me around the house. I was scared but in the end I was laughin about it.
